INFORMATION BOOKLET ON MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS ⇲
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) fact sheet
If you have received a diagnosis of attention deficit disorder, you might not be eligible to get your category 1 medical certificate according to Transport Canada directives. This medical certificate is mandatory to become a pilot in the aviation field. All relevant information on the subject can be found on this fact sheet.
Cannabis and Aviation fact sheet
Despite the legalization of cannabis for recreational use in Canada, strict regulations are in effect for airline pilots according to Transport Canada rules. The main distinctive characteristic of cannabis, in comparison to alcohol, is that its presence remains detectable for a long time in the bloodstream. We ask that you read the fact sheet carefully on this subject.
Dyslexia and Dysorthography fact sheet
A candidate who has a dyslexia problem with or without dysorthography may access the piloting profession in the field of aviation. However, no particular measure will be authorized to take tests within the selection process. The candidate must also meet all Transport Canada criteria during his/her training. The following fact sheet will give you more details.
Overall Health, Operations and Medication fact sheet
Many medical conditions and medications automatically disqualify candidates for a category 1 medical certificate according to Transport Canada medical rules. It is important to get proper information. The following fact sheet will give you more details.
Vision fact sheet
Inasmuch as vision is concerned, the criteria to get a category 1 medical certificate according to Transport Canada rules are very high. It is necessary to get this certificate to be admitted to the program. We ask you to take the time to properly read the Vision fact sheet.
Gather documents mentioned in the medical briefing book that you must provide and carry out steps in order to see a doctor. Fill out and sign the authorization form to release information collected in the Quebec Health Record (QHR). The data will be accessible to the civil aviation medical examiner (CAME) and authorized representatives of the CEGEP. All QHRs will be examined by the doctor. Failure to provide these documents will automatically exclude a candidate from the process.
Applicable for candidates who have met the prerequisites and succeded the selection tests.
Submit to a behavioural or situational type of selection interview that will be used to substantiate if the candidate has the abilities to succeed in and complete the program. (During this interview, the candidate will provide a filled-out criminal record research report that will be used to confirm if he/she is able to get access authorization to restricted airport zones and other certifications that will be necessary for work. Each file will be assessed individually, and the applicant may initiate steps that allow him/her to meet requirements to obtain the aforementioned certifications.)
*** To be admitted to the program, the candidate must go through the many steps of the selection process. The CEGEP will reject the candidate’s application if he/she fails one of the steps. The candidate must have succeeded the preceding step to move on to the next one.
